This is for those of us who feel most activities could be improved if we took them outside, into the woods, or off to the beach.

We meet in a local East Bay park and go for a walk or find a nice place to sit. Tilden Regional Park, the Albany Bulb, or Rodeo Beach tend to be the best places for me to provide these sessions, but I’m open to discussing your preferences if you have other favorites.

In one sense, outdoors therapy (or “Ecotherapy” as it’s sometimes called) is very new. In another sense, it’s the oldest thing around. Spending time outside in a natural environment has long been understood to have healing effects. Many of us prefer to walk and talk when we’re working through a difficult issue. A growing movement of therapeutic approaches has embraced these longstanding notions. New research supports their positive effects. If you’re curious to learn more about the history and science behind nature based therapies, I can recommend The Nature Fix, by Florence Williams.

At this time, I am offering outdoors sessions on Monday mornings and Fridays throughout the day. Clients I see for outdoors therapy may also sometimes choose to come see me in my office or to join one of my groups. If you’re interested, give me a call and let’s sort something out.
